It’s one of the oldest and most important questions humans have asked themselves throughout time. Who is the best James Bond? The iconic secret agent has had many faces since first appearing on the big screen in 1962’s Dr. No–which saw Sean Connery playing the role of 007–and practically everyone who’s seen any of the more than 20 films that make up the franchise has a favorite. Who’s the best Bond, though? Why not let a couple of hitmen on a stakeout decide in the exclusive first look at FX’s Mr. Inbetween above.
While it might seem strange that there’d be much downtime when your chosen profession is killing people for money, Ray (Scott Ryan) and Gary (Justin Rosniak) are clearly used to it and know how to pass the time when they’re waiting for something–anything—to happen. What better time to have the Bond conversation?
Naturally, they both agree that Connery is the best Bond of them all. At that point, their opinions diverge, though. In fact, Gary is especially surprised to hear that George Lazenby–who portrayed the character once in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service–even exists. “An Aussie? Bond? F*** off, you can’t have an Aussie Bond,” he tells his friend.
They also can’t seem to agree on whether or not Pierce Brosnan was a good Bond, though they both love the current 007–Daniel Craig–even if they have no idea what his name is. Eventually, they rattle off their individual lists and seem satisfied with themselves, before moving onto the next big topic: Who’s the best Batman?
It’s good to know that even in the cutthroat world of contract killing, there are still plenty of ways to pass the time while waiting for work to get exciting.
Mr. Inbetween airs Thursdays at 10 PM ET on FX.
