Coming in May 2020 is the next big streaming service, HBO Max. The service is backed by WarnerMedia, featuring content from HBO, Warner Bros., TNT, TBS, TruTV, and a whole lot more. During an investor call, we learned a lot more about what to expect from the service.
HBO Max will cost $14.99 a month, a dollar less a than the premium version of Netflix. Earlier in the presentation, Chairman of WarnerMedia and Entertainment, Bob Greenblatt explained that HBO Max will host the entire HBO service, original content–which includes whatever JJ Abrams is working on, along with a Gremlins animated series–selections from the Warner Bros. library, and more.
HBO Max will have 10,000 hours of content and Greenblatt explained that they’ve removed what he considered “filler” so users wouldn’t spend so much time searching for something to watch. This will be a curated library, which also includes human curation as well.
Every episode of The Big Bang Theory, Friends, and 50 seasons of Sesame Street will be available on the service, along with every Warner Bros. Batman and Superman movie. Additionally, Joker will be on HBO Max at launch. Over 300 episodes of South Park will be available shortly after launch, as HBO Max dives into more adult animated series, this includes anime, as HBO Max is partnering with Crunchy Roll for curated lists.
As for original series, HBO Max will have 31 originals in 2020, and the service will up that number to 50 in 2021. A few of the shows were detailed during the event–you can see images for all the shows above.
