AEW’s Other TNT Wrestling Series Will Pretty Much Be The YouTube Show “AEW Dark”

Update: GameSpot has learned a bit more about the second AEW series that will be hitting TNT. During the TCA winter press tour, CCO of HBO Max spoke briefly about AEW and future plans for the new show. “They’ve been producing this show and putting it on YouTube,” Reilly explained, referring to AEW Dark. “We’re going to embellish that show and put some additional material, kind of behind the scenes and sort of a kind of docu-follow stuff if you will about the athletes and the stories.”

So that weekly AEW Dark series fans of the promotion are already watching will eventually be the new weekly wrestling series, with a little bit of flavor added to the mix, so it’s not just wrestling matches. There is no news as of this writing as to when this show will start airing on TNT.

Original story below…

Back in October, the new wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling launched a weekly series on TNT called Dynamite. And now, the promotion is extending its relationship with the network and adding a new show.

The new deal with WarnerMedia–TNT’s parent company–extends AEW’s contract with the network through 2023, and in addition, this agreement will also see the launch of another weekly AEW series. It is unknown at this time what night the new show will air or what it will be called. AEW currently has another show on YouTube called AEW Dark that airs weekly online.

“When we launched AEW one year ago, we wanted to start a revolution that would disrupt the wrestling business, but everyone said that it would take a strong weekly television partner to make AEW real in the eyes of everyone–above all, the fans,” said Tony Khan, president and CEO of AEW, in a press release. “What virtually no one realized at the time was Kevin Reilly [CCO of TNT] and TNT were committed to this very same movement from day one, and their belief in us made it possible for AEW to think and act big from the start. Here we are, only three months into Wednesday Night Dynamite, and now we’ve been extended through 2023! We’re now making the ultimate statement that the team of AEW and TNT is here to stay and to bring fans more of the great wrestling that the fans demand and deserve.”

It will be interesting to see what road AEW will take from here on out. Currently, Dynamite airs at the same time as WWE’s series NXT, so will AEW’s new show air on Mondays or Fridays, going up against WWE’s Raw or Smackdown, or will the promotion pick a night of the week that doesn’t already have a wrestling show?

Considering the AEW roster is already so large, and many of its stars aren’t seen on weekly television, starting up another weekly series isn’t a bad move. The promotion has already proved itself as a consistent force in the wrestling world, offering up a solid weekly show and some great PPVs as well. The company has already made some big moves in 2019, so it will be interesting to see where they go from here.

AEW Dynamite airs on Wednesdays on TNT at 8 PM ET.
