The next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter will be revealed this week, Nintendo has announced. Game director Masahiro Sakurai will unveil the character during a livestream that is set to take place on Thursday, January 16, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET.
According to the Nintendo Versus Twitter account, the livestream will run for approximately 35 minutes and feature an “in-depth look” at the upcoming DLC character. You’ll be able to watch the stream on Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

This will mark the fifth DLC character to arrive in Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of the game’s Fighters Pass, and the sixth total to be released to date (including Piranha Plant, who was offered as a free bonus to early adopters). The previous four Fighters Pass characters are Persona 5’s Joker, Dragon Quest’s Hero, Banjo and Kazooie, and Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard.
Whoever the fifth Fighters Pass character turns out to be, they won’t be the last newcomer to join the brawl. Last September, Nintendo confirmed that even more DLC characters are in development for Smash Bros. Ultimate, although the company hasn’t dropped any hints as to who those fighters will be.
Each new Smash DLC character is typically released alongside a new stage and several music tracks taken from their series. These individual fighter packs run for $6 USD / $8 AUD / £5 GBP, while the Fighters Pass costs $25 USD / $37 AUD / £20 GBP. If you missed the cut-off date to receive Piranha Plant, you can also pick it up for $5 USD / $7 AUD / £4 GBP.
In other Smash Ultimate news, the game’s next Spirit Board event kicks off on January 17 and introduces several new Spirits from Astral Chain. Nintendo also recently rolled out a minor update for Smash Ultimate that added support for the upcoming Dark Samus and Richter Belmont Amiibo figures.
